Before you receive your first Federal Direct Student Loan, the federal government requires you to participate in Entrance Counseling. The purpose of Entrance Counseling is to educate you about student loans so that you will be a well-informed borrower. Entrance Counseling covers such topics as interest rates, repayment options, your rights and responsibilities, the consequences of default, etc.
All first-time Federal Direct Student Loan Borrowers need to complete Entrance Counseling on the web. To complete Entrance Counseling on the web you will need Internet Explorer Version 5.0 or Higher. You can access Entrance Counseling on the web at www.dl.ed.gov. Once you are on the site, select the GO box (shown below).
