Cost Calculator

Welcome to Ohio University’s College Cost Calculator!

This cost calculator is designed to give you an estimate of tuition, room, board, books, transportation and miscellaneous costs at Ohio University.  This calculator is for informational purposes and does not represent actual financial aid award information.  Keep in mind that estimates received from this calculator are based on the data you enter.

Follow these steps to begin the calculator:
  • First, select the "Tuition Estimator" link and complete the application.  Write down the estimated tuition/fees and multiply the number by three (the number of quarters in an academic year).
  • Next, select the "Room & Board Fees" link.  Review the room and meal plan information and write down the type of room and meal plan you would like to select.  Multiply each of these numbers by three for a full academic year’s costs.
  • The estimated cost for books for the academic year is $873.  The estimated cost for transportation for the academic year is $2580.  The estimated cost for personal/miscellaneous expenses for the academic year is $1071.
  • Now, enter your calculated amounts for tuition, room, and board into the Ohio University Cost Calculator below.  The Ohio University Cost Calculator will provide your estimated direct and indirect costs at Ohio University.  Direct costs are costs that you pay directly to Ohio University, such as tuition/fees and room and board.  Indirect costs are estimated costs incurred during an academic year that are not paid directly to Ohio University.

We have also provided links to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) Calculator.  You can use the FAFSA link to complete the application to apply for federal, state, and institutional financial aid.  You can use the EFC calculator link to determine your estimated EFC.

The EFC Calculator will provide your estimated EFC.  The EFC is a number that is used by the financial aid office to determine whether or not a student qualifies for need-based financial aid.  The EFC is not a figure that represents the actual amount a family will have to contribute toward a college education.  Rather, the EFC is a gauge that is used to determine the financial need of one student compared to another student.  A student with an EFC of "0" has more financial need than a student with an EFC of "7000".  Additionally, some financial aid programs have an EFC cutoff for eligibility consideration.
