The Ohio College Opportunity Grant (OCOG) and the Ohio Instructional Grant (OIG) are state-funded grant programs available to residents
of the state of Ohio only. The OCOG Program replaces the OIG Program for new students who are attending for the first time in 2006-2007 or later, excluding post-secondary option. You must complete the FAFSA by October 1 of the award year in
order to ensure consideration. You will receive a notice from the
Ohio Board of Regents as to your eligibility.
The OCOG is awarded based on total family income and the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the FAFSA. The family's total income has to be equal to or less than $75,000, and the EFC has to be equal to or less than 2190. For those who qualify, the OCOG is available for full-time and part-time enrollment. The OCOG ranges from $300 to $2,496 for the 2007-2008 award year for full-time enrollment.
The OIG formula uses certain data elements on the FAFSA to determine eligibility. For the
2007-2008 award year, a dependent student has to have a family income under $35,000
to ensure eligibility. A single, independent student has to have an income under $16,300
to be eligible. The OIG grant at a public school ranges from $174 to $2,190 for
the 2007-2008 award year for full-time enrollment.
Students who are eligible for the OCOG or OIG can use the grant at any accredited school in Ohio
(public, private, or proprietary). Ohio also has a reciprocal arrangement with the state
of Pennsylvania whereby a student can use the OCOG or OIG at approved schools in Pennsylvania.
